Panasonic SD 255 Bread maker

Panasonic SD 255 Breadmaker

The most popular bread maker in the UK, with favourable reviews from most buyers.
A little bit reminiscent of the 1970’s in it it’s styling, but with easy, wipe-clean white cool-touch housing.
It has a user friendly display pad -everything is in English, no hard to understand symbols. Ideal for all of us, but particularly the elderly who sometimes struggle with digital displays.
The breadmaker has various options including a rapid bake (1 hour 55 minutes) mode and the ability to have up to a 13 hour time delay - great for freshly baked bread to be there for you in the morning!
It will bake white, wholemeal, rye, brown or gluten free bread with ease, and even add raisins or nuts if you choose.
The manual has a straightforward 2 page spread showing how to use it - basically

  • Measure and add the ingredients.
  • Select the loaf size, desired crust colour, and baking start time.
  • Press the start button.
  • Wait 2-5 hours for it to bake. Take the bread out.
  • That’s it! Enjoy the bread.

You may see the old Panasonic SD254 around. It’s exactly the same except that it has no raisin / nut dispenser or rye bread function.Usually it costs  the same or more than the Panasonic SD255, so nearly everyone buys this model.  It may not win any awards for styling, but you won’t go wrong with the Pansonic SD255.

Morphy Richards  Stainless Steel Bread Machine 48268

Very easy to operate, with a good manual and recipe book included.

The paddle which stirs the mixture drops down after use, so that this model has a much smaller hole in the bottom of the loaf. Occasionally it has to be dug out from the cooked bread - but no great problem.

Although a bit temperamental sometimes, the Morphy Richards 48268 breadmaker is much cheaper than the  Panasonic models and bakes excellent bread.
