All breadmakers will bake a standard white or brown loaf of bread. They will usually also have timers. However that’s where the similarities end.

As you pay more you buy more features, which can include:

  • Different loaf sizes
  • Different bread types
  • Viewing windows to see it rise and make sure it’s the right colour
  • A dispenser to add additional ingredients
  • Cool touch body
  • Rapid bake option
  • Smart bake options - programmable memory settings
  • Programmable timers
  • Light / medium / dark crust settings
  • Options to make cakes

If your budget is tight, you don’t have particular requirements and you’re happy with it making great basic loaves, then buy a cheaper model. However if you are prepared to pay a bit more, the you will benefit from these features - e.g. a programmable timer will enable you to come down stairs to freshly baked bread in the morning.
